Loveth Besamoh, a rising force in the Dutch underground scene, is preparing to take on the world. Their latest EP, Weather Report, is a magnetic mixture of genres, creating a unique and singular experience for each listener. It showcases Loveth’s signature blend of ethereal
indie rock, featuring psychedelic guitar riffs, groovy bass lines, and a driving drum sound.
‘Nameless’ is an otherworldly opening; shoegaze in its most divine form that gently eases you into the EP. The tone is gothic and biblical. It almost begs you to worship at the altar of Loveth Besamoh as his deep, resonating vocals encourage you to “Embrace it / Embrace it / Embrace it,” as if the lyrics are incantations.
This thread continues in ‘On Me’, a dreamlike song that knows how to build and when to strip back. Listeners are lulled into a sense of comfort with layered vocals telling you to “Lean on me,” as the song gains speed, revealing a new psychedelic facet to Loveth.
‘Signs’ contrasts itself by starting with a church organ leading into a solid bassline. Loveth and the live band come into full force when it all unexpectedly explodes into sludgy, grungy riffs and powerful drums. There is one more quiet moment when vocals are the only thing we hear before everything rises, culminating in one last full-band punch.
‘Pandemonium’ captures the evolution of Loveth’s live band sound, honed through powerful
performances over the past two years. The song is an intoxicating blend of psychedelic indie
rock, with dynamic instrumentals driving a hypnotic and hard-hitting sound. The vocals are driven by emotion and are fervent, enhanced by their spoken word-like delivery.
‘Fold’ follows and showcases the blend of cultures Loveth brings to music. The guitars are dirty and scuzzy, driven by pounding drums to create an insatiable song. The last minute has you feeling like at any moment, this could all fall apart, and it is incredible to revel in.
‘Death Snapped’ is an eclectic finish. It’s punk with a Loveth spin and doesn’t shy away from a slight Britpop sound. This song is tailor-made for a show in a small, sweaty basement of a pub where you leave more bruise than human.
Quincy Fortes, the band's bassist, shares his thoughts on the recording process: "For me, the whole recording process felt very intimate and free. Loveth brings rough demos to rehearsals and allows us to explore the material and figure parts out ourselves. This approach brings so many different influences together in one big melting pot, and to be able to hear that on record is very rewarding finally!"
Weather Report will make you wonder why Loveth Besamoh isn’t a name known worldwide.
